Toni Braxton to Shimmy, Shake on ‘DWTS’

NEW YORK — Susan Lucci, Toni Braxton and Lance Bass will hit the floor on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”

They are among 13 celebrities slated to compete on the new season of the top-rated dance contest, premiering Sept. 22.

The other contestants are Cloris Leachman, Kim Kardashian, Ted McGinley, Brooke Burke, NFL champ Warren Sapp and two Olympic athletes: Misty May-Treanor, who won her second gold medal for beach volleyball at this year’s summer games in Beijing, and Maurice Greene, who won two gold medals in track at the 2000 games in Sydney.

Rounding out the cast are chef Rocco DiSpirito, Cody Linley of “Hannah Montana” and comedian Jeffrey Ross.

The names were announced Monday on ABC News’ “Good Morning America.”

Is Toni in?

According to TMZ

For “Dancing with the Stars,” heart trouble makes for a better handicap than old age.

82-year-old Oscar-winner Cloris Leachman was originally courted by “DWTS” honchos, we’ve learned, because they needed someone for the “disability” slot — think Heather Mills (one leg) or Marlee Maltin (deaf). They figured her age would fit the bill — until they got Toni Braxton, who has a heart condition, to sign on, as TMZ first told you. That’s when they put Cloris’ dancing shoes … six feet under.

BTW: We also hear “DWTS” peeps are over the moon that Jewel and rodeo dude Ty Murray — who are both in the mix for next season — just eloped in the Bahamas, because the whole boyfriend versus girlfriend storyline they wanted to exploit just got amped up to husband-wife. And we know how married couples can get.

And get this: The Lance Bass rumors? Half true. Yes, he’’s definitely on, but no, he won’t mambo with a man.

An ABC rep tells TMZ, “We don’t comment on casting rumors, but the official cast will be announced on August 25th on ”Good Morning America.’”

I dont like the fact that they keep placing Toni as the “disabled” one. TMZ shame on you.

Dancing With The Stars?

According to TMZ.

Our “Dancing with the Stars” spies tell us Toni Braxton will put on her dancing shoes for the show this season. Toni, who quit her Vegas gig due to heart complications, continues the “DWTS” tradition of dancers with some form of challenge: Heather Mills (leg), Marlee Matlin (deaf) and Tucker Carlson (rhythm).

A rep for the show says they don’t comment on casting rumors.

Working With Claude Kelly

Up-and-coming singer/songwriter Claude Kelly wrote the recently leaked Akon song “Hold My Hand” featuring Michael Jackson, but he confesses hearing the legendary singer’s voice on the track the first time was a total surprise to him.

“I wrote the song and gave it to Akon with the intention of it going to maybe Whitney Houston, but Akon said he wanted to cut it himself. I thought, ‘It doesn’t get any bigger than this’,” the 27-year-old New York native tells Billboard.com. “A few months after, Akon plays the song for me and all of a sudden I hear Michael Jackson’s voice. I was literally shaking by the time the song was over.”

The track, which is in contention to be the first single from Akon’s new album, due late this year, has since been pulled off the Internet. As per when an actual Michael Jackson album will be released, Kelly says a date hasn’t been set yet. What has been confirmed, as per Kelly’s manager Michael “Make” Mentore from Star Power Media/Make Moves Management, is that the track will appear on both Akon and Jackson’s albums.

Since penning the collaborative track, Kelly has been tapped to work not only with Akon and Whitney Houston but also with Jennifer Hudson, Frankie J, Brandy, New Kids On The Block, Toni Braxton, recent Def Jam signee Unique and Leona Lewis, including the latter’s second single, “Forgive Me,” which will be released in the coming weeks. He also wrote the entire debut solo album for Corbin Bleu from “High School Musical” fame.

As a child, Kelly took piano and flute lessons and sang with local choirs. He attended Brooklyn College of Music in 1999, and in 2002 wrote his first song, which was placed in a Bathing Ape compilation released in Japan. His first major placement came with “Daddy’s Little Girl” from Frankie J’s 2006 album “Priceless.”

In the future, Kelly says he hopes to work with the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna, Usher, Chris Brown and Kelly Clarkson, among others. He also plans on delving into country and rock music as well.
